How we teach
At Bali Wave Academy we teach the ocean first and the board second — reading currents, finding the channel and staying safe matter as much as the pop-up. Lessons are progressive: beginners start on gentle reef-protected white-water, and as your timing improves we move you toward green waves at your own pace. Expect patient, encouraging coaching and a lot of waves caught on day one.

We meet on the sand at Batu Bolong Beach, Canggu, in front of Old Man's — look for the Bali Wave flags and the board racks. Scooter parking, rinse-off showers and warungs are all a minute away.

Best decision of my Bali trip
Came as a total beginner and left ordering boards online. The progression coaching is the real deal and the location at Berawa is gorgeous at sunset. Worth every rupiah.

Good value, gear varies
Coaching and stoke were top notch and I improved a lot. Most of the boards are newer soft-tops but I got an older one on day one. Swapped it without issue when I asked.

Communication was spot on
Easy WhatsApp booking, clear meeting point by the warung and they rescheduled around the rain with no fuss. Fresh boards, good leashes, friendly team. Highly recommend.

Felt safe as a non-confident swimmer
I was upfront that I am a weak swimmer and they paired me one-to-one, stayed within arm's reach and never took me out of my depth. Equipment was clean and in great shape.

Cancellation
You can cancel or reschedule up to 24 hours before your lesson start time.
Weather & swell
If the surf is too small or too big to teach safely, we reschedule your lesson at no cost to the next suitable session — your booking simply moves to a tide that works, or we refund you in full.
What's provided
Most lessons include a board and wetsuit, see each lesson for exactly what's provided.
Fitness & effort
Demanding. A physical session with lots of paddling, come with a good base fitness level.
Swimming
You need to be able to swim to join a lesson: confident in open water, not just a pool.
Minimum age
Suitable for ages 6+. Younger surfers are welcome with a parent or guardian present, message the school first.
Before you arrive
Bring swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and water, and arrive 15 minutes early to get fitted.
